earthquake struck New Zealand
Two people have died after a powerful magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck New Zealand's South Island.
an announcement by Prime Minister John Key that there's no other details about this catastrophy for the time being.
the earthqurake hit just after midnight , some 95km from Christchurch.
the prime minister said that A tsunami arrived about two hours later.
also, the ministry of civil defence said that the tsunami waves as tall as five metres may hit the eastern coast the next few days.
only just after 08:00 local time , the warning was diminish to a "marine and beach threat" with a little waves of just 1 metre along a small extension of seaside .
more information from the reporters on Monday morning in the capital Wellington , Mr Key announced that there had been a very small communication from the most damaged areas.
"We don't have any indications at the moment to believe (the death toll) will rise, but we can't rule that out," Mr Key added that a military helicopter was being send to Kaikoura to get information from there.
